Coolest Homemade Green Lantern Costume

This Homemade Green Lantern Costume is 100% hand made! My boyfriend and I worked on it for about 2 and a half weeks. First we went to Wal-mart and bought black spandex pants and a top. Then we went to Joann’s fabrics, and bought green spandex material and gray material. We also bought craft molding foam, and glow in the dark paint.

After we got home we weren’t really sure how we wanted to make it, after about 3 days we decided to go back to Joann’s and buy craft foam paper. We cut the foam to match the chest pieces and arm pieces, and hot glued the fabric to the cutouts and the cutouts to the spandex. For the mask we just bought one and hot glued the green fabric right onto it. We cut it just a little to his liking though.

Then we started on the ring! This was my favorite part! We molded the foam pieces into the ring, and let them sit for a day, then we painted them, it wad hard to get the ring just right, but we figured it out. After the costume was complete I was so happy and relieved, so was my boyfriend!

His costume was a hit at the party we hosted! Everyone thought it was store bought, and he had the most complements of the night!

  1. trying to make one for my boyfriend. You gave me some good ideas. What did you do for the boots?
Did you mainly use hot glue to glue on the pieces?
    Anyway..good job!
I hope we can pull it off as well!

  2. For the boots we glued the green fabric together so it slipped up and fit tightly around the calves. And then glued the green material so it covered my shoes. to make it fit tight on the shoes we glued white spandex string to go along the bottom of the shoe.used all hot glue. can be a little warm when glueing the foam pieces onto the spandex while wearing it. good luck. :)
