I am so lucky I have a cat that is tolerant of my crazy ideas. My cat Chunk is 12 years old and is my pride and joy. After seeing a lot of cute pet costumes online but not wanted to spend a crazy amount of money I decided I would create my own. This is my first attemp at making my own pet costume. I looked online for ideas but could not find what I was looking for. Then the idea of catfish came to me.
We live on the Oregon Coast so this year I was inspired to make a coastal themed costume for Chunk. I came up with he idea of a “catfish” costume.I Googled cat costumes but couldn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to let me creativity go wild and see what came out.
This costume is handmade using one of my old t-shirts, felt, a pipe cleaner for the fish whiskers, a hot glue gun and my sewing machine. I decided to try for a koi looking fish since I had a lot of orange, yellow and red felt. I started with fitting my old t-shirt on Chunk and getting the correct spot for his arms. I then used yellow felt as a base layer and sewed that on to the t-shirt. After fitting the shirt a second time cut out and hot glued the felt scales on. I created a felt fish tail and eyes and added white pipe cleaner whiskers to finish the look.
Luckily Chunk let me put the finished product on long enough to get pictures. He was able to walk around comfortably and didn’t fuss too much.Sure he may not wear this for more than a 10 minutes at a time but it was worth all the effort to get pictures.
Happy Halloween from Chunk and me!
