Dog-tor Seuss Would Be Happy With These Things

My two boys are always happy and stick together.  What better way to celebrate their joy for life.  Dr. Seuss created two joyful and destructive creates that pop out of a crate. Thing 1 is my mini Aussie who is four years old and my rescued yellow lab, with a touch of Golden Retriever, he’s three.

I purchased two red long sleeve t-shirts and two short blue wigs.  One shirt per dog was fitted and sewn. The extra material, from cutting the length off the arm sleeves, was stuffed with batting to create and neck collars. I cut out round cardstock white paper and wrote thing 1 and thing 2.  I hot glued the red ribbon to the back of each sign.  These were slipped over their face before the wig where placed on their head.  I back-combed the wigs and sprayed them with hairspray.

I created the crate with cardboard.  I drew the crate in perspective to give the illusion it is open, and they just jumped out.  I covered the cut-out cardboard with red spray paint.  I added the latch detail, made of cardboard and painted it metallic. I setup the backdrop for the picture with a white sheet taped to sliding glass doors.  Then I placed the cardboard crate centered on the white background.

My lab, Buck, didn’t want to wear the wig at first.  My mini Aussie, Bear, has endured four years of different costumes.  He sits still during fittings and is the best model.  Many pictures were taken to capture a good image.  Bear and Buck are smiling in this picture.

They won first price at the local PetCo.

“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” (Dr. Seuss)
