Pacman Arcade Stroller Costume

My 8 month old son was the inspiration. I knew he would be in the stoller the entire night, therefore I wanted his costume to be part of his costume.

I started with an large size U-haul box, that fit perfectly over the stroller. I then drew where to cut out the box to make it look like an arcade using an box cutter. Next I used yellow felt fabric for the outside of the box and black felt for the inside and top of the controller stand. I fixated the felt with hot glue.

The Letters for “PAC-MAN” were drawn out and outlined with puffy black fabric pain (let dry for 4 hours) then cut out individually. I drew PAC-MAN and outlined with black puffy black fabric paint, and used red fabric pain for his tongue, and black fabric paint to color in his eye. Again I drew his boots and hands and outlined with black puffy fabric paint.

The inside of the arcade I drew the PAC-MAN game maze with blue fabric paint and use glow in the dark white fabric paint. For the joystick, I use the handle of a paint brush covered it with black duct tape. For the ball of the joystick, I used a styrofoam ball painted red with spray paint. I covered a square cardboard with black felt and used white glow in the dark fabric paint for the “Insert coins here”

Lastly, my son wore a black PAC-MAN onesie. I worked on the arcade during my son’s naps and bedtime, so a total of 35-40 hours. It was really fun to do and I can’t wait for next year. The hardest part was gluing the black felt on the inside due to the angles. Other than that, it wasn’t too hard.

I got great reactions to the costume. Adults and kids were shouting “PACMAN” when they would see it. Or they would come up and take pictures or want to touch the joystick. The funnitest part was my 8 month old was oblivious to the entire situation.
