I have always been a fan of Miley Cyrus and after seeing how ridiculous her outfits were at the MTV Video Music Awards this year, I knew it would be such a fun costume to make. After careful consideration of studying and viewing Miley Cyrus’ 15 different outfits at the Video Music Awards this year, I decided to go for the silver outfit she wore as it was the most ridiculous one.
To make my costume, I used duct tape, spray paint, metal chains from Home Depot and Yarn from Michael’s Arts & Crafts for the hairpiece. I also bought tiny silver pom pom crafts to put in my hair to form the look of her beaded hairpiece on her ponytail of dreads.
I formed a skirt out of duct tape and attached the chains in the front and back of the “skirt”. To form the look of dreads, I bought thick yarn and rounded it up and tied it all together to form a ponytail of dreads. I used around 25 bobby pins to pin the ponytail to my head and secure it for full effect and full dancing mode!
I received a lot of applause and compliments from both friends and strangers at the event I attended. People asked me for pictures and one of my friends claimed she couldn’t look at me because she thought I actually looked like the real Miley Cyrus. In addition, lots of co-workers complimented me the following Monday of Halloween and I received 150 likes on my Instagram of the costume.
It was a lot of fun to wear and I’m very happy with the way it turned out. I dressed as the “wrecking ball” Miley Cyrus a few years back but this costume was a way better hit.
