Coolest DIY Flamingo Costume

I made this homemade flamingo costume for my daughter when she was 3. We have done homemade animal costumes for all of her Halloweens and have been on a bird theme for the past three years (see parrot section for her 4 year old costume.)

I started with a leotard and added 63 feet of feather boa. My mother made the head piece which was like a hood that closed with Velcro under the chin. The beak and eyes are made of craft foam with wiggly craft eyes glued to them. The shoes are made of pink croc-like knock off type shoes with kitchen gloves with the thumbs cut off sewed to them. She wore pink tights.

She loved this homemade flamingo costume and won every costume contest that we entered! This year we hope to make an awesome peacock costume.

  1. I saw you and your daughter at the Como Zoo ZooBoo the year she wore this costume and my friends and I were so impressed that we made ourselves big flamingo costumes last year. We wore them to ZooBoo last year and we will be there in them this year as well.
    Very inspirational!

  3. I was wondering if you’d be interested in selling this costume? My daughter wants to be a flamingo for her upcoming birthday in June (she’ll be 5) and I don’t have a creative bone in my body. Let me know what you think. Thank you!
