My bat costume has so fun to make! I cut up one umbrella and sewed the halves to a black long sleeved shirt. I removed the stick from the umbrella and carefully sliced the rest of the umbrella in half. I sewed the umbrella to my shirt, and let the metal poles stick out of the armpit area in the back. I tied the poles together in a loose bundle so I can still move freely but they will be out of the way.
Then I made ears out of paper and wore a black skirt. I love to sew so this was a fun project. The wings stay folded down at my side when my arms are down and I can function pretty well in this costume. This is a great costume and only cost me about $15.00 to create. I can’t wait to go to parties in this awesome bat costume!
Hi. I was thinking of maybe doing a bat costume this year (I’ve always wanted to do one but never got to it). I was wondering… was the shirt hard to take off with the wings sewn on? Also did you just buy a new black umbrella to cut away? I hate buying new things just to rip apart, but I guess if I can’t find an old umbrella I will have to. How much did the umbrella cost you? Do you know who would sell the cheapest one? Was the sewing process hard? I don’t really sew. Anyway, hope you can reply to my message. Thanks!
