This Homemade Bumblebee Transformers Costume is a Halloween costume I made for 2009. I decided I wanted to be a Transformer, and Bumblebee was always the character I thought was the coolest – he didn’t have to talk, he just acted!
This was constructed from mostly cardboard boxes that computers were shipped in. The entire costume was covered with yellow, black, and silver duct tape. The door “wings” are made of Elmer’s foam board and attached at the back using industrial strength Velcro so they could be removed easily (I couldn’t walk through most doorways with them attached).
I cut the pieces into shape using an Exacto knife. Everything is attached to my body using elastic bands and luggage straps found at a local craft store. The best advice I can give is to just use your imagination and assemble each piece with the end result in mind. Most of all, have fun! I loved doing this and I will definitely be making my own costumes from now on.
