My idea for the Thing 1 and Thing 2 costume came from the book Cat in the Hat, which I read every night to our boys at the time. It was fairly simple to do. We got red sweat suits from our local Goody’s Store and white felt and stick on felt lettering from Michaels.
The most difficult part was coming up with the hair. The boys were going through a bald stage so spray painting was out of the question. We live in a fairly isolated area so our only resource was our local party store. While scanning each aisle, my mom and I came upon blue pom-pom hats. We bought them for $2 each, brought them home and I proceeded to do a trim.
Halloween night went off without a hitch which was surprising as the boys had fevers. Despite their grins each had a temperature over 100. What can I say – they’re little troopers!
