Coolest DIY Spongebob Halloween Costume

It’s Spongebob! My son likes to draw Spongebob and watch the shows. We couldn’t find the costume in the stores and I had just bought a sewing machine, so I decided to make a Spongebob Halloween costume.

This costume is made entirely out of felt over cardboard to give it some shape. The cardboard covers the front and back of my son with a hole cut in the top of the cardboard for his head to fit through. Styrofoam glued to the cardboard served as shoulder pads and made the costume more comfortable. We didn’t put cardboard on the sides so that my son’s arms could relax more easily.

I sewed part of the costume and glued the rest on. For the shorts, I took a pair of my son’s shorts and pinned some brown felt on it. The socks were easy – I just found some old socks and used a marker to add the colors.

My son was happy to lightly add Spongebob’s holes with a marker. It was a project that we could work on together and was fun to do. It was fairly simple to make and got my son lots of attention from his classmates, friends, and neighbors!

Total cost: $10
