Coolest Homemade Spongebob Squarepants Halloween Costume

I started this Homemade Spongebob Squarepants Halloween Costume with a cardboard box that fitted my 2 ½ year old son. I cut out arm and neck holes. Then I opened the box and used it as a template and cut ½’ foam to match each side.

I laid out all the foam pieces and cut the fabric to cover it all making a pocket for each foam piece. Once those were sewn in I sewed the box together.

To decorate I used white, blue and black felt for the eyes and hot glued them on. I cut the mouth out of red felt and added 2 white teeth out of white felt and a pink tongue with left over pink fleece from my other son’s Patrick costume and hot glued them on. Then I made various sized circles out of green felt and hot glued those on for the spores. I sewed a nose and stuffed it with fiber fill and hand sewed it on.

For the clothes I went to Goodwill and bought a large men’s white shirt, large brown shorts, and a red tie. I cut the sleeves off and sewed them into the arm holes. I cut the shirt to fit and added some extra width to the sides to make it go all the way around. I did the same with the shorts cut the length, hemmed them, and sewed down the sides to fit the box. Tied the tie and sewed it to the collar then trimmed the excess.

For the hat I used the left over felt and copied my son’s baseball brim added a 2” ring that fit his head and sewed on the white dome shape. I cut out an anchor shape and hot glued that on. My son then wore black dress shoes, white socks with blue and red stripes, and a matching brown shorts and white shirt outfit underneath and carried a cheap dollar store spatula.
