Cute Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume for a Boy

I made this Oompa Loompa costume from scratch, using white fabric and mostly hot glue.

I sewed the pants together, cutting out the pattern based on the measurements of my son. The straps for the overalls were the last thing I sewed on.

I cut up a striped store-bought scarf to make the stripes on the collar and cuffs of the brown turtle neck purchased from Goodwill. I used scraps of the scarf to create the striped swirls on balls which I then attached to a pair of brown slipper shoes.

I put pipe cleaners on the poofs of the overalls to make them stay puffed out. I cut stripes out of the left-over fabric to make the stripes on the candy bucket. I used a brown scarf I bought from the dollar store to fix around the top of the candy bucket ($1), folding the edge of the scarf just enough so the edges of the vertical stripes were hidden under the lip.

Orange paint was used for the face, white paint for the eyebrows and green spray paint for the hair.

The costume took me about a month to complete as I really wasn’t sure what I was doing. We were told many times that he had the best costume anyone had seen that night. I was very proud of myself and wanted to share this costume!
