I made this Homemade Jabba the Hutt Costume based on my son’s challenge and as a creative outlet. Notice the circle patterns on the lower body. This is a blue sleeping bag (Goodwill find) stapled to the the head. The head is formed out of ¾” foam with 1” staples and hot glue holding together the seams.
Safety pins and hot glue burnt fingers made this happen. I originally glued it to a bike helmet to create the form, which I later removed since the spray painted sheet gave it strength and it rested better on my shoulders. The foam is covered in a bed sheet spray glued to the foam (notice seams and overlay on the back of the head).
I sketched a mouth, nose and eye openings. Then cut them away. The eyeballs are from a Costco apple cell pack several laid together, hot glued then colored with Chartpak art markers (not functional from inside since you can look through the nose or mouth).
The coloring is Rustoleum exterior spray paint, four colors sprayed on the blue sleeping bag and the sheet. I detailed the eyes, creases and cracks with Chartpak markers to give it depth. The tongue is part of a sheet, the arms are part of a sheet with white garden gloves cut and made into three fingers. Safety pins, hot glue burnt fingers made this happen. The tongue was operable by my left hand, which many giggled at. The best is moving the mouth in Jabba speak and shaking the head back and forth for the Jabba laugh.
Probably 20-25 hours spent in the man cave, but I was able to make three or four kids cry, and garner full worship and awe of my son.
