This year’s Halloween costume was Carol from the book “Where The Wild Things Are”. I started it kind of last minute, about 8 days before Halloween.
I started out with a couple sheets of 1-1/4″ foam and formed a rough torso, hands and legs. Then I tried to manipulate a cardboard box into a head.
That didn’t work out so well! I later scrapped it for a much lighter and rounder foam dome. The face was sculpted from clay on a flat surface then
cast in plaster. Once the cast was set I used liquid rubber to create a mask to glue on for the face. Some beige and gray plush felt and some black faux fur were used to cover the foam frame.
I then painted the face, tossed on some foam teeth and horns….and that was about it. I only got to wear this Homemade Carol and Max Costume for a couple hours, passing out candy with my son (who was of course Max). It was his very first Halloween and it had to be fun!
This is the coolest homemade costume I’ve ever seen! Hope that you’ll be posting more great creations in the future. Keep up the good work.
