My daughter wanted to be a Jeanie from “I Dream of Jeanie” for Halloween. She picked out a costume in one of the Halloween magazines and it cost $40. Well, as a mother of four children I cannot afford to pay that. So, I came up with a costume on my own. I did buy her a ponytail at a local salon supply store for $5.
I went to my favorite consignment store and purchased a pair of window sheers for $2, and a golden scarf with sparkles on it for $2. I then went to Wal-Mart and bought two yards of satin blue material at $2.50 a yard. I just had Tabitha stand to be the model while I measured and pinned and then I cut the material to fit around her chest and mid section, hemmed it and put elastic in the top to prevent it from falling down.
I made two sleeves by cutting the sheers and sewing them like tubes then attaching them to the top then I added elastic to the bottom to make the sleeves ruffled. The pants were easy. I did not use a pattern.
I laid out the material on the floor, had my daughter to lay down on top of it and I cut around her legs to make the baggy pants. I sewed the material together and added the elastic to the waist and bottom of the legs and it was done.
We tied the scarf around her waist and she wore some slipper shoes she already had in her closet. She loved it!
