Last year it was my husband’s turn to chose our costume. He chose the Super Bowl 2010 Kia Commercial. I decided on the 2 main characters-Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba and a Sock Monkey (both of which I couldnt find any real looking costumes online).
For Muno I purchased large amounts of 1.5 inch foam from fabric store and a block of 3″ foam to cut and stack for the head. You will need red fleece for the body and black fleece for the eyeballs, also a red zipper for the back to climb in and out of, Styrofoam balls (cut in half) black mesh for the mouth, soft stuffing material in a roll form for the arms, Styrofoam glue and spray glue.
I cut out pieces of foam to create a sleeveless bodysuit of foam with the crotch area open. I wanted this costume to look like movement from a rubber doll. I then created sleeves out of upholstery stuffing in roll form. The head was a made from stacking and gluing 3 inch Styrofoam. Lastly, I sewed and spray glued the fleece over the entire costume and then sewed the costume together. I then sewed fleece covered 1/2 styrofoam balls all over the costume, adding a large one for the eye and cutting a hole for the mouth (to see from) and 2 grommets for a straw to drink from, red zipper up the back, hand holes at the wrist to release your hands and a fly to use the restroom without getting undressed.
This Homemade Yo Gabba Gabba Costume was the most complicated costume to date.
