I made the Homemade Halloween Tree Costume out of Great Stuff foam spray, coat hangers and spray paint. I first made a cylinder mold with cardboard putting cardboard in the arm holes to keep them open. Then attached wax paper to the cardboard. I then began spraying horizontal lines of foam around the mold, leaving space in between each one to allow for expansion. Then repeating the process till the tree was covered.
Then I gently pulled the cardboard and wax paper out of the foam mold. I attached coat hangers and lightly covered them with spray foam. Once the foam was dry. I spray painted it with regular and textured paint. I added a bird’s nest with two little birds that I painted black. I added glittered fake leaves and real Spanish moss. There are also two red bat eyes in the side of the tree (not pictured).
I attached two red Christmas lights to a piece of Styrofoam that I painted black.
I AM INTERESTED IN DOING THIS COSTUME FOR A HIGH SCHOOL PLAY (WIZARD OF OZ) CAN YOU TELL ME HOW DURABLE THIS COSTUME IS AND HOW WELL IT HOLDS UP.
The costume is actually pretty durable. The foam on the branches did crack slightly from my daughter going through door ways as the costume is pretty wide. After I was finished with the costume I thought it would make a good stage prop. Let me know how it turns out. Also, I lined the inside with black fabric from an old sheet I had with a hot glue gun because my daughter complained that it was itchy when she wore it.

i love your idea a couple of questions, what did you use the coat hangers for and did you mean spray vertically instead of horizontally. Thanks for the great idea. my son is going to be a tree stump in his school musical.
How many cans of Spray foam did you use? Also how did you seal the top off?

how did you attach the coat hangers? Was the top of the costume top heavy?
