My 3-year-old son said he wanted to be a robot for Halloween, so I knew I was going to have to make a homemade Robot kids Halloween costume.
Wastebasket body, dryer vent arms and legs, custom cardboard head, plastic cup ears, and LED battery-powered Xmas lights from Target, with white plastic leg caps from Home Depot glued on for a more light-bulby effect (I drilled holes in the body and popped the lights through, so the wiring stays inside. The top of the head is a chrome LED strobe light sold for use in jack-o-lanterns, with a red prescription bottle lid glued on top).
The robot legs were stitched onto a pair of denim shorts with a needle and thread so they would stay put. The one thing I would do differently is use a more rubbery glue for the white light caps, because they kept coming off.
The homemade Robot kids Halloween costume was a big hit in our neighborhood. Everybody loved it.
