Before my son Jared was born, I was a big collector of shoes, Nike shoes to be more specific. Like any child of the 80’s, Michael Jordan shoes were the “it” thing to have.
So naturally, when I found out I was pregnant, I started to get mini versions of my favorite sneakers so that he too could be a sneaker aficionado.
But I realized that wasn’t enough. Not only did I want him to wear the shoes, but I thought “Hey, why not put my two loves together make my son a shoe?” Thus, “Air Jared” was born.
Since the Air Jordan 1’s started it all for the Jordan shoe line, I decided to create my own version of it for my son’s Halloween costume. I constructed it with foam and used vinyl for the exterior and signature Nike swoosh, all hand-sewn. The shoelaces were made from huge shoelace-like ribbon and the eyelets were constructed using electrical tape. The soles of the shoe were painted white with modeling paint. The emblems were enlarged, laminated and glued on.
To complete the Nike Air Jared Costume, the real Air Jordan 1’s had to be on “Air Jared”‘s feet. Happy Halloween!
this is AWESOME! i love it!!!!
