Coolest Homemade Candy Vending Machine Costume

The Tuesday before Halloween, my 9 year old son came home from school in tears, saying that his classmates had teased him that his Ninja costume idea for Halloween was “lame”. Not a fan of store-bought costumes, I was happy to ditch the Ninja, re-think and create a whole new idea for the big day and started throwing out ideas based on my own childhood creations. I was inspired by my 5th grade “die” (as in one of a pair of “dice”) and came up with the vending machine, plexi-glass window with candy included! It’s amazing how simple this costume was to make and only took about 3 hours to complete.

Wednesday after work, I bought all the supplies at Michaels. We covered a box in black wrapping paper. We made an “inset” box of black foam core and attached the candy on hooks with numbers. Shiny “metal” duct tape is the best invention EVER and was used to make all the “metal parts – money slot, coin drop and candy dispenser. Needless to say, he was a big hit at the school parade on Friday, and was thrilled when every house we stopped at on Halloween called the entire family to the door to admire his costume!

Seeing how happy he was on Halloween in his Homemade Candy Vending Machine Costume made my day!

  1. That is a great costume! I made one for my daughter too. It was so fun to see reactions and I think she actually got more candy :-) Your costume is soooo much better than a store bought! Well done!! craftyandsassy1.com.
