My daughter had talked about being a gumball machine for several months… so my husband, she and I all went together and created this homemade gumball machine costume for Halloween.
We used cardboard for the bottom and fit it around her waist. My husband attached the back with a plastic screw and cap so we could take it on and off. We spray painted the whole piece red. I made the “metal” parts on the front out of more cardboard spray painted silver that we glued to the front. I hot glued the “twist knob” onto the front and put another piece of cardboard in back of it so it’d stand out and look 3-D.
We cut a hole in the front and glued a silver piece of cardboard over it to look like the dispenser of the machine. I attached a small bag to the inside that hung down a bit and we put real gumballs in it that kids could come up and take. That was a hit!
The top part was a huge clear plastic bag that we cinched around her waist and filled with ball pit balls. We taped close to her neck and arms so they’d stay. The hat is a red plastic bowl that I hot glued a round piece of cardboard up into so it’d fit on her head and not fall off. I spray painted that red to match the bowl. Such a fun thing to make!
This is really cute! great job!
