As a member of the Grand Rapids Original Swing Society that meets every Tuesday night and is open to the public, we created a costume pairing for an evening’s dance that was dubbed as Prom Night. My friend and I love to have a good time, and don’t have normal or reserved senses of humor by any means…so we were not afraid to stand out. And we did with our half ready for the Prom couple costume.
There’s over a thousand members in the group and on a themed night where people are challenged to dress up, on average only 10% or less actually do. Most just attend in their normal day to day attire. But not us. So while those that attended and actually dressed up in their fancy prom attire, we decided to show up “Half Ready”. We didn’t even coordinate what colors we were going to wear or what we were necessarily going to wear to one another, we just said “let’s just get half ready and see what happens”…we both died laughing as did everyone else with how well we coordinated when we showed up at the dance.
We were both in black and white, but then I had a hair full of old school granny curlers, bright blue and yellow duck slippers and he was in a pair of shorts with a tshirt and tie and socks that went up to the knee. The homemade “prom king” and “prom queen” sashes were the perfect final touch, and much to the surprise of myself and everyone in attendance…..made by him!
