Last-Minute Homemade Frida Kahlo Costume

Last year, I struggled with a costume idea.  At the last minute, I came up with the idea of dressing up as Frida Kahlo because I did not want a sexy costume and I wanted something unique.

I went to Burlington Coat Factory and got a red peasant skirt with sequins and a gold and red peasant top. I bought some fake, cheap gold earrings, necklace, and bracelets.  I parted my hair down the middle, braided it in two braids, and pinned it to the top of my head.  Then I bought some red, silk roses from the Dollar Tree and bobby pinned them in my hair.  I got some wide, red Christmas ribbon and fashioned a sash out of it.  I wore some moccasin/loafer type shoes.

The final touch was the make-up.  I wore dark red blush and red lipstick.  I used dark brown eyeliner to draw a unibrow and a thin mustache.  You could also wear a shawl to complete your outfit.  My Mexican friend even gave me the Mexican seal of approval.
