Crash Bandicoot is a video game character who came onto the gaming scene in 1996 sometime after the very first Sony Playstation game came out. Initially, Crash’s games weren’t anything up my alley back then, mainly because we didn’t have a PS1. The only Playstation home consoles we own are a Playstation 3, and both my father and I have our own Playstation 4 consoles. I recall meeting Crash at Universal Studios Hollywood back in 2007 back when Vivendi-Universal used to own the rights to Crash Bandicoot… it’s now Activision.
My love for Crash began to grow when I had gotten Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for PS4. Then for my 34th birthday in 2019, I had received Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled as one of my birthday gifts. I devoted my love to Crash Bandicoot throughout the years I owned the PS4 games.
2020 has been a rough year due to COVID-19/Coronavirus and things looked bleak. In late June of 2020, I had gotten word about the new Crash Bandicoot game, “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time” and it raised my spirits.
After playing Crash N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled on my PS4, I had thought after the latter game that Crash Bandicoot’s comeback time would pretty much be over… Nope. Like I said, when I heard the news that a new Crash Bandicoot game was coming out in early October, I was excited! Last year I had plans to be Coco (Crash’s sister), but when Terry Bogard was announced for DLC for Smash, I scrapped that idea.
The costume consisted of an orange hoodie which my mom sewed Crash’s ears and hair on (since I cannot sew anything to save my life whatsoever, even with a sewing machine…), and I had most of the costume parts for my wonderful Crash Bandicoot costume, like some blue capris that I used for my Terry Bogard costume last year, as well as the red shoes which are sold for a cheap price at Walmart…the truth is, I had two pairs of those “Walmart priced” red shoes for ages! I had used some black fingerless gloves (again, from the Terry Bogard costume I had last year) as Crash wears them (except his are brown colored, but I’m DIYing it as much as possible).
I went all over downtown in my Crash Bandicoot costume (due to the quarantine, there was no Halloween parties/dances to attend), dancing to the music I was listening to on my iPod, often doing what Crash does best — spinning around! However, I didn’t want to overdo the spinning, as spinning too much would make you dizzy. Hey, at least I don’t get motion sickness like a ton of people do (especially my father). I later would show off the costume to a few friends/neighbors in my apartment! If only my friend could commit to this despite social distancing, she could either be Coco. Too bad I lacked the time or courage to make an Aku Aku mask to protect me.
Dr. Neo Cortex will not live this down, no siree…
