Having visited the Wizarding World in Orlando in early October we knew we wanted to dress as characters from the movies for Halloween.
For Luna I already owned the skirt, coat, tights and shoes. I purchased the Quibbler at the theme park and wore the Spectre Specs that came with it as much as I could (they made me a little dizzy!). Her wand was made from a chopstick wrapped in paper and then painted brown.
Snape was easy – we purchased a black wig and he wore black clothes and a cape we already owned. Add a sneering expression and we were all set!
For Dobby I made the wars out of flesh-colored craft foam attached to a headband. She wore a torn sheet tied over her clothes and carried a black sock.
Tonks was the most fun. We searched the thrift shops and found a black bathrobe that I added studded embellishments to. We found a red and black striped shirt and sewed a gray hood from an old hoodie on. We made the necklace from leather cord and buttons, and put the same studs from the “coat” on a pair of old gloves that we cut the fingers off of. We sprayed her hair pink and added a pig nose. Both kids carried the wands they had purchased at the park.
We got a lot of positive comments and had a lot of fun.
