Now I am girl that believes in using whatcha got and, what do I have?? Hair!! So, when I was trying to think of a good costume that included my long hair I came up with CRAYON!!
To make my red Crayon costume: I went and got a ton of red and black felt. First, I measure the red pieces to see how long they would be on me and trimmed off a little. I then pulled up tons of online pics of actual crayons to get the design in my head. I then just cut out the pieces of black felt to look like the black on the crayon sleeves. After that, I glued the pieces of black felt onto the red felt with fabric glue. Now, to make the two pieces of red felt into a dress I just cut little slits all up the sides of each piece and then tied each “fringe” piece together to make a dress. I used a couple of pieces of scrap red felt and glued them on the top to make the straps.
Now, this costume would have been cute just like that buttttt like I said this was a costume specifically chosen to use my best asset…my long hair. So, for my hair…. I flipped my head upside down and put a solo cup upside down on the top of my head. I gathered my hair around the bottom of the solo cup and tied it tight. I then proceeded to use more hairspray than was used in the entire decade of the 80’s and slowly stood up. When I was positive it was secure I sprayed it some more. Then, to finish it off, I got a couple of cans of red hair spray and went to town. Then, bright red lipstick topped it off.
If you don’t have the long hair to do the point of the crayon with, a painted party hat would work great too!
Now, my man isn’t the biggest fan of dressing up but I love Halloween and really wanted him to participate. So, to keep him happy in just his jeans and a t-shirt, I just got a white tee and painted “I’m with red” on it. He loved it and it looked great!
