Cool and Original Homemade Costume Idea: Rabbit in a Hat

A couple years ago I really wanted to be a Rabbit in a Magic Hat. I already had the rabbit ears and tail. I used lipstick and eye pencil to draw the nose and whiskers on my face. The hat was the tricky part. I don’t sew at all, so first I went to the store to get all of the materials.

I got black fabric, one hula hoop (to hold down the bottom of my hat), one roll of red sparkling fabric (to go around the brim-it was already cut that width), white ribbon (for the straps), and a large piece of cardboard (that I cut into a circle for the top part of my hat-the part around my waist). It was pretty much trial by error. Again I don’t sew, so I just cut and hot glued the fabric until I had it the shape I wanted. I used a glue gun and glued the hula hoop into the fabric at the bottom of my hat, so it stayed down. I also glued the white ribbon straps and red decoration on, as well.

This wasn’t too good in crowded places, but I liked it! I have seen costumes you can buy, but I thought my hat looked a lot better. Homemade is definitely the way to go.
