Alexander DeLarge from the movie “A Clockwork Orange” is one of my favorite costumes. Most of this Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange Costume was assembled from items I already had, and I only required a few bits and pieces from the stores, but just about everything is very common and easy to find, especially around Halloween time.
The hat is a bowler / derby, which I had from a long time back. The wig was an old Beatles wig, believe it or not, but it sorta fits the character. I used two fake eyelashes – both on my right eye, one on each lid. The left eye was left alone.
I wore an off white button down shirt that I already had in my closet, I just folded the collar inside using clear plastic clips – double faced tape would work as well. I also owned a pair of similarly colored off-white, slightly baggy cargo pants. I picked up a cheap pair of suspenders from the thrift store & painted them white with simple house paint! I also had old black Army combat boots, which you can’t see in the picture.
A few other small details complete the costume – a few small scraps of red tissue paper were taped onto each sleeve of my shirt, and on top of that I taped a plastic ping pong ball eyeball. I grabbed an old cane, ordered up a glass of milk from the bar and presto – Droogie Alex!
This was a fun costume to put together and was very recognizable. The best part is that it is easy to wear and walk around in. The only part of the costume that should have included was the codpiece, but that could be made with just some fabric, I’ll do that next time.
Thanks for this one. I am throwing a Halloween party and several people are dressing up like characters from A Clockwork Orange. They asked me to help make the costumes because I studied the movie for an essay in college. To be honest, though, I didn’t know how I would pull it off with a limited budget (I need all FOUR Droogie costumes, although our “Alex” already has the hair)until I read this post. So thanks again. Unfortunately, unless I want to be a naked chick, there is no part for a woman in that movie besides Alex’s mother. Great site.

Any idea where I might find (or how I might make) the long phallic nose Alex wears?
There is no “off the shelf” place where you can buy that phallic nose. But you can modify a masquerade / harlequin mask with a bit of modeling clay and paint it… Alex wore a clear mask in the movie, btw.
As for female characters, you could dress up as the two go-go girls he met in the record shop, or just go as a general 1960s costume. Or even dress up as one of the droogs – like Christina Aguilerra did!
You should be able to pick up all the clothing in thrift shops, shouldn’t cost you too much.
