Coolest Art Masterpieces Costumes

As a stay-at-home-mom and artist, I have for many years created home-made costumes for my family. I have a craft room full of paints and brushes, glue, paper, and all kinds of fun things to make stuff with. We lived in Europe for a few years and were so privileged to visit world famous museums that were filled with wonderful art. These inspired me to re-create replicas of a couple well-known paintings — Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, and Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.

I painted them on foam-core art board, with acrylic paints after sketching the main elements of the paintings in pencil – leaving an nice big oval to fit our faces. I glued a gold-painted “frame” around each painting, and an elastic band around the back of the opening to hold them to our heads. It didn’t cost much– a few dollars for the foam board — and I already owned the paints and brushes. Just be careful – you want to make them a size that will fit through a doorway! T

This might not be a costume for someone who is new to painting since basic art skills would be needed. But for an art student or painter this is a great way to show off your skills and appreciation for the great masterpieces!

I’ve had such a great response to these Homemade Art Masterpieces Costumes – in fact, a good friend asked me to paint a second “Mona Lisa” for her to wear to a costume parade!
