My boyfriend, now husband, went as Bob Ross and he painted me into a Happy Little Tree.
We both had fond memories of watching Bob Ross as a child. Classic television right there. I remember being glued to the telly, inspired by his genius uses of burnt sienna, titanium white, and yellow ochre. My folks even got me a fan brush for Christmas so I could recreate his little footy hills.
I can’t remember which one of us came up with the idea, but when it was suggested.. instant agreement!
I made my headdress out of a twig wreath from Joann Fabrics and shoved (er…artfully arranged) a bunch of faux autumn leaves all up in there. It turned out way better than I thought it would. I attached extra leaves to brown wire and wrapped them around my wrists.
My husband simply wore a fro wig, glue-on facial hair and made a paint palette out of cardboard. The resemblance was uncanny, especially for being half-Filipino. The reactions from our friends and family were the best. Everyone has a soft spot for Bob Ross. How can you not?
“People might look at you a bit funny, but it’s okay. Artists are allowed to be a bit different.” – Bob Ross
