I was trying to think of a great idea for a costume this year and a light bulb went off in my head. Knowing that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided I would make a giant Awareness ribbon to show my support for this great cause! It is a scary fact that it affects 1 in 8 women, and every 3 minutes someone is newly diagnosed.
I wore this breast cancer awareness ribbon DIY costume to a contest and had people coming up to me and saying thank you because they were survivors! I received a lot of high fives and “Good Jobs”. I was looking for something that was original and creative and I believe I found it.
I bought the ribbon material at a fabric store and sewed it in the ribbon shape, and used thin foam to hold the shape of it. I printed the words out on my printer and traced them onto the fabric then colored them with a marker. I attached the ribbon to my shirt with hot glue so that it would stay on and I was still free to move around and use my hands. It was fun making it, and its a great feeling wearing it around!
My 4 year old decided today, 2 days before Halloween that I needed to dress up with her. I wanted something different. And I saw this and it was perfect. Going to call my 14 year old before heading out for supplies, I think she might want to do this for school on Monday. Neat and once again thank you for sharing.
