I had been wanting to do the leg lamp from ‘A Christmas Story’ for a long time, and finally put it together this year. I made the lampshade out of muslin and sewed in French seams to hold the boning. After adding all the boning, it needed to be stiffer, so I added wire as well. I attached the fabric to a wire ring at the top, then Kevin fashioned a harness worn over the shoulders. I sewed Velcro onto a shirt, and attached moonlamps on the front and back. To give the appearance of one leg, I wore bi-color hosiery, half white half black, a fish net stocking over one leg, and 2 different shoes. I painted my face and hair gold to resemble the knob at the top of lamps, and wore one earring to look like a lamp switch.
Kevin went as Ralphie who shot his eye out. He made the glasses with eyeball attached by using a ball from a roll-on deodorant, paper iris, epoxy, and red string. He attached it to the side of the glasses and poked a hole through a plastic lens he made from a cookie container. He then scratched the lens and added fake blood. He got most of the cowboy outfit from good will and made the sheriff’s star from plastic and paint. He made the rifle out of poster board and printed out an actual image of the gun used in the movie. He then covered it with clear packing tape.
Just great!!
