Cool Cupcake DIY Costume

Who wants to spend all Halloween weekend in a boring, store-bought, slutty X costume? This year I decided to be a fancy cupcake. I made this Homemade Cupcake DIY Costume from a child’s craft apron, hot pink nylon fabric (about 3 yards), heavy-duty aluminum foil, poster board, jewel/gem stickers, safety pins, fabric glue and ribbon.

Since I’m terrible at sewing I decided to cut the fabric into long, thick strips and safety pin it to the apron in large twisted bunches for the “frosting”. I fluffed the fabric so you can’t see the pins from the front side. For the foil cupcake bottom I cut the poster board into a rectangle with a curved top and bottom then covered it with the foil and folded it accordion-style. I pinned it to the bottom of the fabric area with safety pins. I added some glittery ribbon and a bow with fabric glue.

The original apron strings were too short so I cut them and glued on matching ribbon. I added gem sticker “sprinkles” and a scrapbook “sweet” sticker. I also made a matching headband with the leftover gems and cupcake-shaped eraser.

I spent about $20 and 4 hours on this costume and had an awesome Halloween!
