The idea for this doll costume came after I found a really cool makeup trick that involves painting your eyelids to look like doll eyes, and slowly the character evolved. I took a simple black dress and painted the thread marks, bought striped socks and sleeves and then mary jane shoes at Goodwill.
The puppet rod was the hardest to create. I ended up just taking dowl rods and pieces of wood from Home Dept and gluing together, then braided yarn to attach to my fingers. I ended up sticking the rod down my back and wrapping my stomach with an ace bandage to keep it in place – not very comfortable for a long period of time!
Everyone LOVED the doll costume and at night my eyes glowed and added to the effect.
All made for under $50.
