It’s Halloween time again and that means many hours in a small garage being covered in little bits of foam. This year we decided to bring to life a childhood classic TV Show, Gumby Adventures!
We started with the basic building materials, cardboard and Styrofoam. These two materials adhered together with hot glue makes a rigid costume body and are easy to shape. With the costumes’ bodies created it is time to start painting.
One trick we learned early in the process is that the cardboard and Styrofoam do not look very good when you paint them. Our secret is to use posterboard. Gather posterboard from your local craft store and paint them laying flat with a semi-gloss paint. Attach the posterboard once dried and you will have a great looking, polished, costume.
Our DIY Gumby Adventures group Halloween costume idea was constructed in one week and consumed 6 cardboard boxes, 2 sheets of Styrofoam, 35 sheets of posterboard, and many hours of my time! I believe our costumes turned out amazing and got a lot of attention at our party. Enjoy!
Cool costume, sounds like a lot of hours put into making these. You would get my vote in a contest.
