For this Homemade Girl’s Pumpkin Costume we wanted a cute but functional costume for a “pre-teen” girl. We started with orange felt (2 meters) and some black felt for the eyes and mouth. We also added black ribbon as the stripes. We cut out two circles and sewed them together leaving the top open, then we folded over the edge to add a draw string.
We had our daughter lay down ontop of the circles so we could cut out the arms and legs. The arm holes and the leg holes need to be tight enough to hold the stuffing in (this makes the pumpkin plump). We cut out the eyes, nose and mouth from black and glued them on with spray glue.
The face makeup was added at the end. We used orange water proof and green hair spray paint and “got 2b” glued hair freeze spray for the head to make it look like a pumpkin stem and cap. Lastly stufedf the costume with newspaper….and enjoy!
