I wanted to be a cat for Halloween, but I had seen the glow in the dark costumes at stores and thought they were really cool, so thus the glow in the dark cat costume was born. The base of the costume in just a full body suit that my mom sewed for me, kinds of like the one-piece flannel pajamas you see in old movies…
Then, I bought 100 glow sticks off EBay for only $10.00.
The night of trick-or-treating, I activated all the glow sticks and put them together into lengths that would stay on my body. I also tied strings between the glow sticks to keep them from falling down.
I bought glow in the dark eyes and found glow in the dark paint. I painted my nose and whiskers with this paint.
While trick or treating, I brought a portable backlight to recharge my glowing face.
I liked the originality of my costume and my parents liked that I was visible to cars at night so that I was safe.
Thanks, Laura for sharing your ideas with such excellent detail on how you made these costumes. we should swap ideas! Sara Licht (art&horses)
