This is the scarecrow costume we made for our three year old son.
We brought some raffia and thick white cord from the hobby shop, an old shirt and jeans, and an old straw hat from the thrift shop. Cost maybe $10 altogether.
We found some old coloured fabric around the house and cut them into squares for the patches.
Then we glued the raffia to the squares, making sure that some raffia was sticking out over the edges.
We sewed the squares to the shirt and jeans.
And we glued some raffia to the sleeves at the wrists.
We glued more raffia to the hat, and unraveled the straw at the edge of the hat as well.
Also some small pieces of white cord (or rope) which were tied around the wrists and the waist (not too tight).
And that’s it.
All we had left to do was makeup and this is optional. White grease paint for the face, red grease paint for the cheeks and black for the nose.
Our son was the hit of the night, he got a TON of candy and everyone said he was so cute.
