This Homemade Headless Costume was actually an idea from this page. I used almost everything from things lying around the house. The coat and paint were the only things we purchased and the coat only cost a couple dollars (the thrift store was perfect for this costume). We used old pool ladder handles for the frame, a noodle for the arms (with some newspaper), a backpack with double zippers and ace bandages to hold the frame to his back, a small plastic bowl, covered in newspaper and painted for the neck, attached to frame with a long zip tie, lots of safety pins, cut pieces of velcro and duct tape.
For the goo on the neck, we added some “flarp” that had partially dried out and broken into chunks to some red “sludge” my son had gotten at his book fair, then added a little extra darker paint later. It took a few days to collaborate everything, but has been well worth it! You can tweek it however you want to get the look you need.
