Coolest Headless Mad Scientist Costume

This Headless Mad Scientist Costume was an awesome costume that the kids loved and was a lot of fun making. My son was a headless mad scientist. To make the costume, I started with an old lab coat, large plastic (pretzel) jar and cardboard.

For the assembly, I made a cardboard form for the torso (you can also use a backpack). I took a PVC pipe and cut it for the “neck” and covered it with old nylons to appear as skin color. I cut out the back of the pretzel jar and attached Velcro to the back for it to stick on the coat.

I added some fake blood using red food coloring around the neck and inside the plastic jar. For the hands, I just used plastic gloves and filled them with old nylons. These can be attached using Velcro to the bottom of the jar also.

It is hard to see in the picture, but we put white makeup on his face with some fake blood, to make the appearance of being “dead”. This looked great at night. We placed a green (or you can use red) glowstick inside the jar for it to glow at night and it looked like the head was floating.

To put on the costume, simply wear regular clothes, and leave the lab coat unbuttoned several buttons to place your head through. Someone will have to attach the jar and there you have it.

This was a HUGE hit.
