I wanted to do something that was simple yet scary. My favorite Halloween costumes are ones where the person becomes the character for the day, thus the Headless Man Costume. I got an XXL used men’s suit from a thrift store, and built the costume from there. The inside frame work is really the only technical part. I made a backpack type rig, starting from the bottom with stirrups that cupped the top of my shoulders (wire hangers plus foam padding plus duct tape), attached them to a flat back brace (hangers plus cardboard and more duct tape), and ending at the top in a box structure that filled out the upper torso and shoulders of the costume above my head.
I used black mesh at the chest of the suit jacket so I could see out and give the idea that my head was the heart, and framed my head with the hands draw attention to what could not quite be grasped. The hands and feet were both “monster hands” from a discount store. The mesh, hands, feet, and position of the arms were all attached by hot glue gun.
All that was left was to add my own flavor of how to move in a silent yet intimidatingly scary sort of way, and the character was complete!
Nicely explained.
Thank you!
