My boyfriend and I decided to be a Homemade Astronaut and Solar System Couple Costume for Halloween this year. We tucked an old lab coat into Aikido (martial arts) pants found in our closets and pinned an American flag on his arm for his astronaut costume. With a 2 liter soda bottle and the hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner we made an airtank that was secured with his Aikido belt.
My costume was a simple black shirt and skirt with a belt. I used markers to decorate Styrofoam and ping pong balls as planets. I attached the planets using floral wire (or any thin wire will do) and wrapping it around my belt. I finished the costume by attaching confetti stars all over with double sided tape.
Because most of our costume components were found around the house I only paid $3 for the Styrofoam balls!
Voila! You’ve got one out of this world costume!

This is one of the cutest homemade costumes I’ve seen. If my boyfriend doesn’t go for the astronaut I just might do it anyways.
