Once my hubby and I decided we would be Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf I went to work trying to create the costume. I’m a swing-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda girl and I don’t really PLAN very well – so this Homemade Big Bad Wolf Costume literally came together a bit at a time.
What I first started with was the faux fur. I knew I would need to sew some legs/arms and a hood of some sort. I am not a seamstress really I just crudely put the pieces together with no pattern. I determined the leg size (which were pretty much just leg warmer’ish by wrapping the fabric around his legs and cutting and sewing (we ducktaped the top of the fabric to his jeans when we were done). The the same with the arms, a basic arm shape with “mitten” shaped fingers.
The key piece that brought the “mask together” was deciding to use a baseball cap as the snout – I glued the fur on the brim with a hot glue gun then I used a foam vision (upside down) for the “bottom” of the snout (my husband’s eyes were in the middle so he could see. Then I sewed a hood with ears and a bulk of fur at the neck to wrap around the front and to put over the baseball cap – the other key pieces. I sewed the tongue out of felt, found the granny glasses and nightgown at the thrift store and used gumball eyes for the eyes (found easily at Halloween time).
Voila – the Big Bad wolf disguised as granny!
Fantastic idea of how you made the mask. That gives me a great idea for my son’s costume this year. Very cool!
