This year I wanted to dress our daughter up as something different and unusual, and unexpectedly our little cake WON OUR COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY COSTUME CONTEST!!!!
I am sure that I made the construction of this Homemade Birthday Cake Unique Halloween Costume Idea a little more difficult than it could have been, so if you’re real crafty feel free to adjust as needed, but even at my amateur level I found it fairly easy.
My supplies consisted of:
foam sheets (2sheets)
cardboard
felt fabric (in whatever color you want your cake)
all kinds of bling for decorations
hot glue gun
measuring tape
Measure your child from shoulders to knees and divide by 2 (this will be the length and tiers of the cake). Lay the foam lengthwise, and trace out 2 different sized rectangles, I used 45 in for the middle tier and 60in. for the bottom tier.
You will need to cut out 2 circles for arm holes in the smaller rectangle. Wrap each one in felt.
Fold each rectangle to make a circle using hot glue to attach the short ends.
Cut a circle out of the posterboard that will top each tier, cut a hole in each circle for the child’s head and waist. Wrap these circles in felt and attach to the top of the tiers.
Glue the top and bottom tiers together and decorate. I used the same method to make the hat.
** On a side note: we went trick or treating after the contest and parent after parent wanted to know if I made it, where I got it, could they photograph, etc…it was a real hit!
