This Homemade Blues Brothers Costume was one of the easiest and cheapest costumes I’ve ever done. We had originally planned to go as gangsters but as I started researching costumes I came up with this idea. I thought it was original, no one I had ever known had gone as the Blues Brothers.
My husband and I both wore black business suits and white button down shirts. We already had those on hand so there was no cost involved. We bought the wayfarers and hats on E-bay. I think the cost of those for both of us was something like $16 total. Fortunately, my husband already had two black ties on-hand from a wedding he was in. So we wore those. And we wrote JAKE and ELWOOD on our knuckles to make the tattoos they wore in the movie.
It worked perfectly. Everyone thought we were hilarious. We even almost won the best costume contest but were beat out by Sarah Palin and her moose!
