Coolest Homemade Box of Movie Popcorn Costume

I love to make costumes for all 6 of my kids, as we ran through ideas, my 11 year old son picked popcorn. I try to make them with things I have on hand or can acquire free – cost of this Homemade Box of Movie Popcorn Costume – FREE!

My mom pulled through with a box just the right size so it needed no adjustments – a box from an ink jet printer. We cut a hole big enough for the head and tested for arm holes. Being able to move in a box can be tough so we cut slightly forward and oval to make sure he could be pretty mobile – his hands could just touch in front.

From there we measured out a large sheet of butcher paper to size. We laid that out and marked it with 1.5″ wide stripes. My kids went to the computer, typed “Popcorn”, and picked a font we liked. Printed as big as possible to fit the front of the box (took 2 sheets of paper. Using old fashioned tracing paper transferred it to the paper, and drew the zig-zag lines around it in pencil and erased the stripes from inside that area.

Next, we painted every other stripe red with acrylic craft paint. With kids helping it was a little less than perfect, but with some white paint to touch up the big mistakes it looked great! Then a black sharpie marker to color in all the letters and the zig-zag outline. Taped it securely to the box to prevent any tears, cut open the armholes.

Finally we took ‘c’ shaped packing peanuts and glued them to a white baseball hat, and the top of the box.
