My name is Mike and I have a 4 year old boy who every year gets a home made Halloween costume. When he was two I made him a Thomas the tank engine costume from foam, a cardboard box and duct tape and I added a small set of battery powered speakers that played the Thomas theme song from my Ipod. When he was three years old I made a Buzz Lightyear costume and I used cardboard, duct tape, foam, lights and lazer.
This year I went overboard and made him what he wanted to be. My son’s name is Trent and he wanted a Homemade Bumblebee Transformer Costume and I was at first totally aposed but why not, I hate to back down from a challenge. Starting with a jumper red pajamas, I covered it with adhesive foam sheets then Velcro strips. I cut out over 50 hand designed shapes from soft mat foam and proceeded to cover them with duct tape.
I installed battery powered Christmas lights into the chest piece with hot glue. I connected wheels and wings to a back armor plate with tape, Velcro and zip ties. I carved small puzzle pieces for the face mask and glued them together then painted it. I also made a gun but it was too heavy for his so I chucked it.
He went trick or treating for an hour and a half before getting tired and he made out with twice as much candy as last year.
