Homemade Bumblebee Transformer Costume Idea

My 6 y.o. son wanted to be Bumblebee from transformers for Halloween. I thought it would be cool if he also transformed. I wanted the homemade Bumblebee Transformer costume to be easy to transform so his Dad and I wouldn’t have to fuss with it b4 and after transforming. We pieced together 3 different sized boxes.

The finished “car” was about 4 feet long 18 inches wide and 12 inches tall, (18 inches for the roof of the car) I used 2 door hinges to make the front end ‘fold’ back. I used yellow, black and blue spray paint. Push closet lights (10.00) for the head lights and 2 reflectors for the tail lights. An old backpack was hot glued to the inside of the ‘roof’ and he wore the costume that way.

I glued paper plates together for the wheels, sprayed them black then took silver tape to make the wheel design. I also used the same tape to make the chevy bow tie design on the front of the car. Black tape was used for black design on front of car. I used painters tape to tape off the car for the black stripes on the hood, roof and trunk of car.

We did buy him a store bought costume to wear under the car so when we were at a party he could still be a transformer. When we were trick or treating he wore the car. I carried a CD player and played the transformer song every time he transformed. We also have the car on youtube, here it is:

Happy Halloween!
