Our 5 year old wanted to be a fairy this year. I went to JoAnne Fabrics and bought materials to make her a Homemade Butterfly Fairy Princess Costume- toule, shiny fabrics (in all different shades), and lace. I had found a pattern for a sleeveless dress and layered the materials on top of one another (there is plenty of space depending on the weather for her to wear long sleeves under).
The additional ribbons and flowers are just hot glued onto the material. Her head dress was made out of silk flowers (also purchased at JoAnne’s) and intertwined with thin wire and then hot-glued to make the layering effect of the flowers.
The wings were white when we purchased them and we bought purple and pink spray paints and also used acrylic paint to get the detailing. Her finishing touches of face paint and a sticker were her favorite part of the outfit! I started with a point at the top of her eyebrow and then did a semi-circle around the edge of her eye and then swirled down toward her cheek and repeated on the other side.
