This Homemade Crayola Crayon Costume is made using a hula hoop as a base with red and black PVC, a stapler, a glue gun and LOTS of hot glue. I used PVC as it was for an outdoor festival where rain may have ruined a costume.
To start I cut the red PVC to fit the hula hoop and made sure it fitted me in height. I made straps from strips of red PVC stapled to the hula hoop.
I cut out the wavy shape at the top and bottom of the crayon using the black PVC and also cut out the crayola logo using layers of black and red PVC. For added authenticity I also cut the word “red” out in black PVC to add to the side of the crayon.
All the PVC was stuck to the main red piece using the hot glue gun and the cylinder shape was attached to the hula hoop using my fabric stapler.
For the crayon tip I made a cone shape from remnants of the red PVC and again glue and staples were used. I also added a strap to hold it in place.
For added effect I also wore a red top underneath and red wellies and a red wig to ensure I was red all over.
It was an ace festival and I got a lot of praise for the outfit- many of whom thought it was shop bought.
Costing about £20 to make I thought it was a bargain.
